2024 Class R:  Youth Division

No entry fee for this section. Please fill out an entry form and tags with age and school or address if home schooled.

Ages based at time of the fair please.

Prizes: ~ 1st – $4.00; 2nd – $3.00; 3rd – $2.00; 4th – $1.00

Prize money for Youth Classes will be handed out at 3:00 pm on Sunday August 25

Little Tyke’s Class:

Rules: Please put your age on exhibitor’s tag. Every entrant who participates in 4 or more entries will receive a prize of $2.00 whether they win or not.

Ages 4 and Under:

  1. Colouring page found on page 55
  2. A drawing of yourself
  3. Paint a rock
  4. Colouring page of your choice
  5. Draw or print out your first initial and decorate it
  6. Five treasures from a nature walk (ie. rocks, pinecones, etc.) 
  7. Dress up your favourite stuffed toy

Hobbies and Crafts:

Ages 5 to 7:

  1. Lego article of your choice
  2. Lego from a kit
  3. Colouring page found on page 55
  4. Draw, colour and label a farm animal and it’s baby (eg. a mare and foal)
  5. Make a flower out of playdough or molding clay
  6. Paint a rock
  7. Tie dye item of clothing
  8. Colouring page showing “farm life” (eg. barn, tractors, animals, fields, etc.)
  9. Article made from recycled items
  10. Craft item made from a kit (eg. bracelet, birdhouse, etc.)

Class R Hobbies and Crafts Special (Ages 5 to 7):

  1. Most points in Hobbies and Crafts: 1st – $4.00 – donated by Carry-on Women’s Institute.

Age 8 to 10:

  1. Lego article of your voice
  2. Lego from a kit
  3. Colouring page found on page 55
  4. Article using tie dye
  5. Popsicle stick house
  6. Superhero accessories – make anything (shield, mask, etc.)
  7. Playdough or molding clay design of a farm animal
  8. Colouring bag showing “farm life” (eg. barn, tractors, animals, fields, vegetables, etc.)
  9. “Half and Half” – cut a picture in half, glue one half of the cut picture onto a page, and draw and colour the other half of the picture

Class R Hobbies and Crafts Special (Ages 8 to 10):

  1. Most points in Hobbies and Crafts: 1st – $4.00 – donated by Carry-on Women’s Institute.

Ages 11 to 15:

  1. Lego article of your choice
  2. Lego from a kit
  3. Colouring page found on page 55
  4. Article using wood
  5. “Half and Half” – cut a picture in half, glue one half of the cut picture onto a page, and draw and colour the other half of the picture 
  6. Craft item made from a kit (eg. bracelet, birdhouse, etc.)
  7. Popsicle stick vehicle

Class R Hobbies and Crafts Special (Ages 11 to 15):

  1. Most points in Hobbies and Crafts: 1st – $4.00 – donated by Carry-on Women’s Institute.

Please cover all baking in a plastic bag or plastic wrap

      1. OAAS Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition 

(3 cookies, no nuts, no larger than 3″ (6.75 cm) and no smaller than 2″ (5 cm) Prizes: ~ 1st – $4.00; 2nd – $3.00; 3rd – $2.00; 4th – $1.00 

Ages 10 to 15 (as of December 31, 2023)

The winner of the Palmerston fair will be eligible to enter at the District 7 Competition.

Baking continued:

Place baking on appropriate sized white disposable plates, aluminum disposable trays or foil covered cardboard. Please cover all baking with plastic wrap or in a Ziploc bag. Put the baker’s age at the top of the entry tag so it is visible to the judge.

Prizes: ~ 1st – $4.00; 2nd – $3.00; 3rd – $2.00; 4th – $1.00

Ages 8 and under:

  1. Make and decorate (2) cupcakes for a birthday party – to be judged on decorating only
  2. Rice Krispies Special – make your Rice Krispies into a fun shape or a big cookie and decorate it
  3. Candy Kabob
  4. Chocolate dipped/decorated pretzel rods, 3
  5. OAAS Chocolate chip cookies competition (see above)

Class R Baking Special (Ages 7 and under):

  1. Most points in baking: 1st – $4.00 – donated by      Carry-on Women’s Institute.

Ages 9 to 15:

  1. Bake and decorate a cake – to be judged on decorating only
  2. Hot chocolate mix in a glass jar (dry ingredients only, layered) that could be given as a gift
  3. Candy Kabobs
  4. Brownies, any variety, 3
  5. OAAS Chocolate chip cookies competition (see above)

Class R Baking Special (Ages 9 to 15):

  1. Most points in baking: 1st – $4.00 – donated by Carry-on Women’s Institute.

Junior Poster Competition

“Original handmade design”

Sponsored by Sharon Sothern

Local Prizes:  ~ 1st – $10.00; 2nd – $5.00

Three Classes based on Grade in June 2024:

      1. Youth up to and including Grade 4
      2. Youth Grade 5 to Grade 8
      3. Youth Grade 9 to Grade 12

Criteria for youth poster classes:

      • Must be hand drawn
      • Must include the name and dates of the Palmerston Fair August 25, 26, and 27, 2023
      • Must also include Fair theme:  Where have you bean?
      • Poster size: minimum 8 ½” x 11” (23 cm x 28 cm) to a maximum 11” x 17” (28 cm x 44 cm)
      • Each entry must be centred on CARDSTOCK or BRISTOL BOARD, showing a 2” (5.5cm) border on all four sides
      • On the back of each poster please include the following: student name, grade level and full name of school

Judging Criteria:

Overall Appearance – 20 points

Attracts and holds attention – 25 points

Competition theme clear – 40 points

Quality of materials/end product – 15 points
